Experimental book binding exercise dedicated to the fun times of my childhood with my dad.
1. What will be a good lighthearted title?
After making some prototypes of small crafts, I realized that I did not want to focus especially on cards but paper crafts in general. These include things that could be decorated around the house, and given as little neat gifts!
2. When photographing the projects, what kind of props or backgrounds should I consider?
I am using things around the house like fabric from clothing, bedsheets, and furniture as a background to play off the ideas around the projects themselves. How could they be situated? Should I have duplicates of the same project?
3. What is one pet peeve about step-by-step instructions you don’t like?
A few of the books I found in the library that offer instructions were a little hard to comprehend. I’d like to know some of the issues that you have found when trying to follow instructions.
Thanks! : )
At the moment, I have completed the writeup for “Introduction”, “Tools / Materials”, and have 5 prototypes of the projects done. They are prototypes for now because I am testing out how it will look, and then remaking the projects again by photographing the steps of construction. The chapter on “How to Use this Book” will follow once I have started writing the instructions.
I have made trips to arts and craft stores for materials such as ribbons, paper stock, beads, and lace, etc. I can spend too many hours in stores like this. I have found a ribbon store called Mokuba. Definitely worth checking out if you are crafty or like collecting ribbons in general!

Something to listen to when making crafts!
Introduction
Making crafts and small little gifts has always been a great fascination of mine. Recently I’ve taken a liking to cardmaking and paper crafts. I absolutely love giving little gifts to family and friends over the holidays, for birthdays, and life’s little special occasions.
There are many ways to craft a card, and these include variations in its form, and materials/supplies used. The book I plan to make is an instructional step-by-step D.I.Y book that has projects to enlighten readers in making their own handmade card/paper crafts. The book will not only have cards that are made especially in paper, but bringing in other 3D objects such as pine cones, LED lights, and things that are unexpected to deliver any message to the receiver in an surprising way.

Who It’s For
This book is for readers in their early 20s to early 30s that like to have fun making cards in the comfort of their home. I hope this book will stir up lots of other great ideas and inspire others to start creating little crafts themselves!

Some Books Are Just Horrible!
From my research in different paper craft books, some of the illustrations or wording of the instructions are hard to comprehend and mistakes will happen which allow the reader feeling unsatisfied. I would like to make it as easy and simple to follow as possible by having photography which shows the process of making it, and using short sentences that gets straight to the point.

Etsy Inspired
A lot of my inspiration stems from Etsy crafters. They are amazing! You can find in my posts below images of the fun, quirky, and cute tone I’d like the book to be like.

Just a Start

I found a cute little chubby asymmetrical pine cone during my visit in Sudbury. Hung on my curtain railing, the little note says “Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!”.
